The Tokuno Islands are beautiful. They are the most beautiful lands in all of the realm. However, coming to such a strange new land can be very difficult to adjust to. I know that dear mom (rest in peace Tatsumi) started out with just a shovel and ended up with a stone keep…where I grew up in the frozen wastelands of the north…(at least we had a lot of snowball fights that made for some very angry polar bears…ever been polar bear hunting with snowballs?)…
…but I found that things in these new lands have changed a bit. I know I may not be as accomplished a bard as mom was, but things don’t work like they used to. When mom charmed someone with her sweet music they STAYED charmed…not so any more. It seems that many of those enemies I have run across are harder to charm in the first place…like those red nights just outside Umbra (and thereby lays a tale!)
I have Lady Kameko and none other than Hera herself to thank for the warm welcome I have been given in these new lands. The kindness and generosity of both women have restored my faith in humanity.
With my owner strength and the help of my dear aunt Tomoe we managed to build a two story villa just outside the walls of Zento City….right near blacksmith shop. Tomoe picked a great location, and it is wonderful to be able to walk outside the house and sit by the small pond, watching the wind blow the cherry blossoms and create ripples in the pond.
Not long ago the Lady Kameko was visiting. I was showing her the villa…which stands no more. It was razed to the ground to make way for a mansion thanks to Lady Kameko…"Razed" is an expression I have long wondered about. “Razed” sounds exactly like “raised”….and to say “Raised to the ground” sounds well…just odd…but I digress…
The Lady Kameko and I were talking in the workroom when suddenly there was a clap of thunder and the room was filled with billows of smoke. The smoke soon cleared to reveal the coughing figure of Lady Hera herself! (It seems that the smoke associated with the dramatic appearance that she makes has long bothered Hera’s lungs…or so she told us)
Looking around, the Lady Hera said, “Where is my chair?”
For it had taken all that Tomoe and I had just to build the place and we had no chairs. Even now we have only one chair…although it is a BEAUTIFUL stone chair, made by Dusti, that sits just outside our zen rock garden.
As if by…well…magic, for that is what it was…a beautiful red throne appeared in the middle of the room. Sitting, Hera announced that she had a task for me…
“I hear you are quite a writer!”
“Well I try my best to follow in mom’s footsteps…but..well…she did wear a size 10 and a half shoe…”
“I wish to have the history of my dear friends Dar and Rose Villous written,” announced Hera.
Bowing, I replied, “I would be honored to do so…”
Lady Kameko excused herself to tend to other affairs. The Lady Hera and I sat there long into the night, as she related the history of Dar and Rose Villous to me. I have spoken to Atheena herself who has encouraged me to post the history in my column. Now that I know that Hera approves of the story as written…I give you…
The Story of Dar and Rose….
