On a cold snowy night, a girl child was born to a carpenter, Silas, and his wife, Alisha. Already having six other daughters and no sons, they feared how they would continue to feed the overly large family. Under
the protests and tears of Alisha, Silas bundled the newborn baby girl in a blanket and set out into the Harsh winter night.
Silas had heard of a group of women, who took infants in to train as Mages. He felt this was the only thing he could do, to help the babe and his family. After hours of travel he came to a small tower on the outskirts of Britain. There was no light showing in the windows as the hour was late. Silas beat upon the heavy wooden door with all his strength, then waited.
Minutes seemed to stretch on for hours, until the door opened a crack, "What doest thou want!" the old lady said as she peered through the opening at him.
"Mistress, Please! I have a babe here that I cannot keep, would thou please take her in? My wife and I have too many daughters to feed anymore! Silas exclaimed as he clutched the child to his chest.
The Old Woman opened the door wider and looked at Silas up and down, "Let me see this child", she said, as she stepped closer to him. Silas unwrapped the bedraggled blanket from the babe enough for the woman to have a look at her.
"I am Magda," she said as she reached out and touched the forehead of the baby nestled in her fathers arms. As she did this, she felt a power flow into her from the tiny creature.
"Ah!" she thought to herself, "This one has the power! Never before have I felt the Power this strong
in one so new!" Looking at the fathers saddened face she said, "If we take this child in, you will no longer be her father, she will no longer be yours. When she reaches the age of womanhood, she will be
told of her birth family then. Then and only then will you ever see her again, and only if she so chooses. Will you abide by those rules Sirrah? If not, you will take her and leave at this moment, and never return!"
Silas' heart was breaking at losing this child, he had felt she was special the moment he took her into his arms, but his family was poor, he had little choice. He knew he could not feed another, and would have difficulty feeding the others of his family that were still in his
house.
" I will abide by your rules Lady Magda. I have little choice. Please take her, be kind to her, and raise her as thou so chooses."
Having said this, he gave the child into the arms of Magda, and turned to leave.
"Have heart Sirrah, this child will be well taken care of. She will learn fast and grow strong, do not worry over this one, she will prosper." Magda took the child inside and bolted the door.
The babe did grow fast, and learned many things from the women in the tower. She showed great promise with her magic the older she became.
On her eighteenth winter she was taken to the meeting room to speak to the Elders.
"Sit child", Magda said, as Sarena entered the room. "The sisters and I have brought you here today to tell you of your birth family,"
Sarena gave her a curious glance and sat down to her left.
"You were born eighteen winters ago child, to a Carpenter, Silas, and his wife, Alisha. You were a Seventh Daughter, born to a Seventh Daughter, hence your powers are true and strong. The mark of the Half-Moon you have on your right cheek shows this to be true. Only Seventh Daughters have this mark, and only Seventh Daughters are born with the power you have
shown. This power you have can be used to help others. That is what the Sisters and I have taught you all these years.
You are blessed my child, your Power is strong, and you still have much to learn, However, it is time for you to depart from us, for we can teach you no more.
What you learn henceforth you must learn from one even stronger than we. Your Birth family lives in the Cove Territory. If you so choose, you may go to them now. We can give you what you need to go there, and
we can tell you who you must see to continue with your learning.
Sarena could not believe what she was hearing. She had always wondered where she came from, but had never questioned it because the sisters had been wonderful to her growing up. She did not want to leave, however, she was curious to know more of her birth family.
"Sister Magda," she said as she reached out to take the ladys hand, " I love you and all the Sisters, I do not wish to leave! Why can't I stay here?"
Magda's heart squeezed with pain, "Child we love thee too, but you must continue to grow, and you cannot do that here any longer. You must learn all you can! We simply do not have the power to teach you more
than what we already have. You must go seek your family, then, you must go to your new teacher. He is very powerful, and can teach you more than you could ever know with us." Patting the girls hand she
turned to Liana, "Sister, do you have her things ready?"
"Yes Sister Magda, all her things are ready and waiting out front". Liana then stood and embraced arena, "We all love you child, and hate to see you go, but remember, there are great things in store for you,
and we will always be here for you, if you wish to see us again!"
Tears came to Sarenas eyes as she embraced the little woman. She loved them all dearly. "I will do as you say sisters, but I will always remember you all, and I will be back".
Magda rose, " First child, you must go find your family in Cove. Be with them, help them if you can. Then before the next Full Moon, you must go to Yew Territory and find Master Tame. Tame is a True Mage, and he will continue teaching you the rest of what you should know."
With this said, they escorted Sarena to the courtyard. Magda embraced her again, "Be careful Child, there are many dangers in the world, many bad people who will try to sway you to their ways. Always remember, we
are here for you, and also, we will see you in your dreams. Whenever you need our advice, we will be in your dreams".
Sarena mounted her White Mare, and with tears in her eyes, bid the sisters goodbye. Turning to the North East she sets out in search of her family, and her new teacher.
